Falls And Mobility Assessments From A Chartered Physiotherapist
What Is A Falls And Mobility Assessment?
Balance and mobility are particularly important to us as we enter our older stages of life. Falls become more common in older adults with 1 in 3 over 65’s having a fall each year. This can result in injury, hospitalisation and reduction in independence. 62% of hospital admissions are falls related whilst only 36% of these patients are discharged. Our partner, Kinesis, has a free self-screening tool to allow you to identify your risk factors for falls that can be accessed here.
Early and targeted intervention can reduce falls by 30-40%. We are striving to achieve these statistics by providing a proven assessment to determine the falls risk. The assessment is aimed at detecting musculoskeletal (MSK) and orthopaedic conditions before they happen. It includes a timed up and go test using QTUG technology and a MSK assessment. Following the assessment you will be provided with a full report of the results.
Pending the results the Physiotherapist can prescribe specific exercises to reduce the falls risk. Depending on their risk this may be once off exercise prescription or require follow up physiotherapy sessions.
