Women's Health By Chartered Physiotherapists.
Women's Health Services
Women’s health physiotherapy is a specific area that focuses on the management and treatment of issues that women can face during key times of their lives. Generally these are considered the child bearing years, peri and post-menopausal, and older women, but issues in this area are not limited to only these stages of life.
Whilst pregnancy and childbirth are the leading causes of incontinence for women, it’s estimated that more than 1 in 3 women aged between 24-85 have urinary incontinence. Other common presenting symptoms include pain during sex, as well as issues with climax, or leaks of urine, wind or stool. Many hide their problems and are too embarrassed to deal with the issues – but there are solutions and improvements to be made that can make a huge difference to people’s lives and confidence.
The best place to begin is by speaking in confidence with one of our chartered physiotherapists who can recommend the best treatment path for you after your initial appointment. This can range from home exercises to strengthen the pelvic floor to a referral to a specialist physiotherapist, depending on your presentation. Where appropriate, we also have a digital pelvic floor muscle training course available.
